I've added a guide to LibAnswers on how to find and use permalinks in EBSCOhost databases. The guide is here: http://libanswers.swosu.edu/a.php?qid=995800.
EBSCOhost's permalinks make it easy to directly link to any citation or article in an EBSCOhost database. A permalink will work whether the patron is on-campus or off-campus.

WebVoyage "Videos" Search Limiter Change
I've made a change to the way the "Videos" limiter works for WebVoyage's basic search.
Previously, this search limiter only selected catalog records with a specific material type. Now, the "Videos" limiter uses a record's location, specifically Video Collection - Weatherford and our online video collections.
As a result of this change, even records for videos and DVDs which have an incorrect material type will be retrieved when the "Videos" limiter is applied.
Jon
P.S. Linda and I are continuing to correct records for DVDs that show up in WebVoyage's title lists as books and other non-video material types.

Unplugging Public Printer is a Recommended Fix
J.G. said Tim recommends that sometimes unplugging the public printer is a fix when it stops working.
This afternoon public printer stopped working and displayed the "Call Service" message. It did not respond to turning off and then on the switch. I put out the out-of-order sign. Later J.G. unplugged it. Either unplugging the machine or the time it cooled down worked.

Stedman's Online Medical Dictionary Unavailable
Stedman's Online Medical Dictionary is currently unavailable.
Jane is working with Ovid, the new Stedman's vendor, to work out a new license agreement. In the meantime, the Unabridged Merriam-Webster includes medical definitions (though they are less thorough than Stedman's).
The print version of Stedman's is available in Reference; the call number is 610.3 S812s.

New Format for Ebrary
ProQuest has finally developed a new, user-friendly platform for ebrary. This format is much easier to read, and all of the necessary tools for use are located at the top of the screen. The intro page includes subscription information that is a bit confusing, so look higher on the page under the title and author where it is written, "Your institution has unlimited access to this book." Enjoy the much improved reading experience.

Student library login errors: "Login failed: Invalid username, password, or ID"
We're getting a large uptick in the number of students having difficulty logging into library databases from off-campus.
The reason is that all students (new and current) are being required to update their SWOSU Student Outlook passwords. Remember that the library's proxy server uses the student's Outlook account to verify the student's status. Until the student updates his or her Outlook password, the student will be unable to login to the library's databases.
ITS has instructions for students on updating Outlook passwords here: http://www.swosu.edu/administration/its/students/live-email-faqs.aspx.
The library cannot update students' Outlook passwords. If a student is unable to update his or her password, refer the student to the ITS Helpdesk at (580)774-7070 or suggest the student email helpdesk@swosu.edu from another email account.
Jon
P.S. The mandatory password update wasn't ITS' doing; it's a gift from Microsoft. ;-)

Learning Express Library
In addition to Literature Online, there is a new interface for Learning Express Library.
New user names and passwords are necessary for account access. This information is not carried over from the old interface. The new website is easy to navigate, but if there is a problem, there is a short user guide on the opening screen.

New Oklahoma History Links
I've added links to our web site for a pair of excellent Oklahoma history resources created by the Oklahoma Historical Society.
The first is the online newspaper archive Gateway to Oklahoma History. This resource provides access to newspapers published in Oklahoma from the 1840s to the 1920s. There are newspapers from Oklahoma City and Tulsa, as well as from towns that have nearly disappeared, such as Wapanucka and Cloud Chief. You can search the collection by keyword or by date. The link is on the Newspapers page.
The second resource is the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Center. This is a large collection of digitized public records from pre-statehood to the 20th century. Key resources include censuses, tribal rolls, and records of marriages, divorces, and deaths. The link is on the Social Sciences page.

New JSTOR program: Register & Read
JSTOR has a relatively new beta program Register & Read. It allows online access ( to certain journals) to anyone who registers for a MYJSTOR account. I don't know if it expanded our subscription base or not, but it is a new interface/tool with which we should become familiar.
The journal AGNI has a number of "Read Online Free" articles available if you are curious about working with the new tool. For more info about Register & Read: http://about.jstor.org/individuals-faq
- Log in to jstor.org and start searching.
- Look for “Read Online Free” above the article and click on it.
- Add the article to your “reading shelf” to read the full text.
- Save up to 3 articles on your shelf at a given time. After 14 days, you can remove articles and replace them with new ones.

Dell Vostro 1700 laptops upgraded to Windows 7
The Dell Vostro 1700 laptops which patrons check out at the Circ Desk have been upgraded to Windows 7. (These are the black laptops with webcams and large screens.) The Vostro 1700 in the Media Creation Room also has been upgraded to Windows 7. I've left off of this laptop some obsolete multimedia software (e.g., Animationish, Audacity, etc.) that received little or no usage from our patrons.
The smaller, newer Dell Latitude 5510 laptops will be upgraded to Windows 7 over the next week.

Canvas Login
If a student needs to get access to the Canvas system, the procedure is the same as with D2L:
First initial of first and last name, and then their SWOSU ID number.
If student does not know password, their is an option on the main Canvas page to reset the password and have new password setup link set to their student e-mail.

AccessPharmacy and AccessMedicine: Students Unable to Access Full Sites
Students have been reporting that they're unable to access the full websites of AccessPharmacy and AccessMedicine. Instead, they report seeing only samples of the sites' content. This glitch is caused by both of the databases changing their URLs on January 8th.
Here's the solution: The patron needs to empty his/her browser's cache. You can refer them to this how-to page for instructions: http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html.
I've posted this information on our pages for pharmacy and nursing, and to the library's Facebook page.
