Public printer "Install MK" message

I've asked Janet G. to call RK Black and have Tim install a maintenance kit in the public printer. The message is simply a reminder; the printer will continue to print normally while the message is displayed.

Reference desk keyboard and public printer

Update 6/27/2013: Janet G. has called Tim from R.K. Black about the public printer. He'll be here on 6/28. Until the printer is fixed, don't put paper in Tray 1. The paper is feeding from Tray 2 without any problems. -- Jon

This morning the wireless keyboard at the reference desk stopped working correctly.  Doug has replaced it with a different one until we can get it sorted out.

There is a problem with the paper feeder in the top drawer of the public printer.  Paper in the drawer will create jams.  JW recommended we leave it empty until he can see about repairing it.  He wanted to do this before calling a service person.

Library Login page now uses HTTPS exclusively

We've added another layer of security for remote users of the library's databases. The Library Login page now always uses a secure HTTPS connection. The switch to HTTPS is largely invisible to patrons, though those with sharp eyes may notice the closed padlock which now displays in their browsers' URL bar. This change will also improve remote access to resources such as SciFinder that require a secure HTTPS proxy connection for off-campus users.

Jon

P.S. For those maintaining LibGuides, handouts, etc.: You don't need to make any changes to your links to library resources; the proxy server handles this automatically.

Public Fax Out of Order

The public fax machine is not compatible with the new phone system and in order to fix the issue, it would have to be sent off. However, it is no longer under warranty and there is no maintenance contract on it; replacing the fax machine is also an option. Until a solution is found, please refer patrons to any of the other fax sites listed in the flip book at the Reference Desk.

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage: Slow Page Loads

Standard and Poor's NetAdvantage is having intermittent problems with slow page load times. S&P support knows about the problem, but as of today (1/30/2013), they don't have an estimate on when the problem will be resolved.

(NetAdvantage is a trial database on the Business page. The trial ends on Feb. 16, 2013.)
