Federated Search

We now have Federated Search capability at the Reference Desk. The rest of the computers do not yet have this application. The Link is on the desktop. Federated Search is a search for information using software designed to query multiple networked information resources via a single interface. I have put a very short, very succinct, article on Federated Search in the Reference Notebook for those interested.

IDIS/Web (Iowa Drug) login change

I've changed the link for IDIS/Web (Iowa Drug) so that patrons no longer need a special IDIS/Web username and password to login to the database. Patrons now only need to click the "Login by IP" button on the IDIS/Web home page. There's a help link on the Pharmacy Resources page that explains the new login procedure. With this change, we will no longer give out the IDIS/Web username and password.

Off-campus patrons will be prompted to login to the Library's proxy server before they can get to the IDIS/Web login page. For this reason, off-campus patrons must login to IDIS/Web using the link from the library's Pharmacy Resources page. (If an off-campus patron can't login, be sure to ask whether they're using the correct link.)

The old IDIS/Web username will work until mid-October. Let Jon know if you have any questions.

Historical Research | Bromert

It's that time of year again -- the Historical Research students will be coming in for assistance. I've created a website just for them to help them with their papers (http://tinyurl.com/gu67x).

Some of the topics this year include:
  • Queen Elizabeth I
  • American female captivity in the South Pacific during WWII
  • Babylonian Religion in the 15th Century
  • 15th Century Christian thought/history
  • Tulsa Race Riots
  • Che Guevara
  • Anti-German sentiment in Oklahoma during WWI
  • Bettie Page

As I get more information from the students I'll be updating the Tiny URL page. Let me know if you have questions!

Long's Eng 1213 Assignment

Jane Long has provided the class handout for their research paper. A copy of this handout can be found in the Reference Notebook under Long's last name. It's a familiar exercise--writing an informative paper on an event that happened during the student's birth year.

Jewish Materials

There have been a few students coming in needing juvenile material on the holocaust. Because the library's resources are limited in this area (for children) you all are welcome to test out my Temple's Library catalog to see if there are additional items that might help the students.

Although the students most likely don't have the time to trek to my Temple on a Sunday they can ILL any of the materials from other libraries.

Let me know if you have questions.
