Catterson: ATEP 4433 assignment

Mike Catterson has given his students an assignment where they're to find two articles in the library from citations he provides. There's a copy of the assignment in the Reference Notebook.

The first citation, from a 1993 issue of the Journal of Athletic Training, is available in full-text from the Directory of Open Access Journals. The listing for this journal in the PHL indicates full-text is only available back to 2001. This is incorrect. Full-text is available back to 1992.

The second citation, from a 1995 issue of the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy, is not available in full-text from any source that I can locate. Our print holdings do not go back to 1995. An abstract of the article is available in PubMed. Look for PMID 8535471.

WOLFF-Nursing-presentation

Several nursing students have come in to work on a presentation for Cathy Wolff in nursing. They have a theory or definition and will need to find sources on it in books and articles. If you can't find the theory as a phrase, break it up, or read the definition they were given to look for other keywords you could use.

HPER assignment - curriculum

Students from a HPER class are looking for a specific health topic in a curriculum book. I've been letting them know what subject number health is in the section and explaining how curriculum works. They can check either the table of contents or the index for their specific subject.

Children's Book Drive FYI

FYI--If you are asked about the children's book drive, materials are to be deposited at the circulation desk. If they are part of a student organization/athletic team, the individual(s) will need to sign the donation listing sheet at the circulation desk.

The Al Harris Library and the Multi-County Youth Services are co-sponsoring a children's book drive.

Change a Child's World @ Your Library for National Library Week, April 3-7, 2006

The children's book drive will run from March 20 to April 7. The Al Harris Library is welcoming donations from the university community by individuals, departments and university-sponsored organizations.

Book donations should be materials that are appropriate for pre-school to pre-teen/young adult, and these books should be new or used (excellent) condition. These materials can be deposited at the drop-off box located next to the circulation desk in the library.

All donated books collected during this period will be presented to the Multi-County Youth Services at the conclusion of National Library Week.

Info for Student Organizations/SWOSU Athletic Teams----

The Al Harris library would like to issue a special challenge to university-sponsored student organizations and SWOSU athletic teams.

Representatives of university-sponsored organizations and SWOSU athletic teams need to speak with the circulation staff before depositing your materials. The circulation staff will maintain a listing of donation amounts throughout the three week period. On Friday, April 7, the group with the most donated children's books will receive free pizzas courtesy of Mazzio's and Pizza Hut to be used at a time and date of their choosing.

The winning group will be asked to meet at the Al Harris Library for a publicity photograph during the week of April 10th.

Da Vinci Code Poster Contest FYI

Da Vinci Code Poster Contest

To celebrate the popularity of Dan Brown's novel, the Da Vinci Code, and the upcoming release of the motion picture by Sony Pictures, the Al Harris Library is displaying materials that highlight the novel, the movie, the video game, Da Vinci's achievements, and the mysteries of codes and hidden messages.

For the duration of this library display, faculty, staff and students can submit contest forms for a chance to win a movie theatre quality poster of the motion picture, the Da Vinci Code. There are no restrictions on how many chances you submit. Contest chances will be available at the library display only. The winner of the poster will be announced during National Library Week April 3-7.

Helton's Foundations of HPER research assignment (small)

These are the same topics as last semester but he has a much smaller class. They're focusing on 3 out of the 6 topics. See the entry on October 6, 2005, for more details.

Jill Jones/English Comp II-Newsweek assignment

She has assigned her 1213 class (29 students) the task of looking up the Newsweek from the week they were born. They will be using microfiche and microfilm. They are to compare the issue to a relatively current issue which was given to them in class and to report on some of the articles they find there.
